I am in Tauranga and we had a situation where a 2 storey home, situated coastal was damp and cold. It was suggested that a trench was dug around the permit er of the home, back fill with gravel, draining piping laid and then cover with gravel and dirt.

This worked a treat in reducing the moisture & damp issues.
