    Kia ora practitioners,
See this EECA announcement. You might like to pass onto you colleagues, update your websites (see offer below if you’d like brochures) and communicate with your communities.
    Keep up the good work!

    Government grants for efficient heaters
The Government’s Warmer Kiwi Homes has offered grants for insulation since July 2018. Grants for heaters – efficient heat pumps, wood burners and pellet burners – start from 1 July.
Grants will cover two-thirds of the cost of a heater and the grant will be capped at a maximum of $2,500.
Home owners may be eligible for a grant for a heater if they are the homeowner (not a rental) and the:
    • home was built before the year 2008
    • homeowner has a Community Services Card or SuperGold combo card, OR
    • home is in an area identified as low-income
    • home doesn’t have an existing operational heating appliance in the main living area.
To be eligible for a grant for a heater, the home must have existing ceiling and underfloor insulation that is up to EECA standards. Home owners may also be eligible if a service provider contracted to EECA has assessed the home and found insulation can’t be installed.
Grants for ceiling and underfloor insulation continue to be available through the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme.

To reduce impact on air quality from wood burners, the maximum limit for emissions from wood burners approved for use under Warmer Kiwi Homes is 1 gram per kilogram of firewood. This is a stricter limit on emissions than the National Environment Standard for Air Quality set by the Ministry for the Environment. Based on previous programmes, we expect most homeowners to choose a heat pump but wood burners will be offered as an option with low running costs. In some areas, we have yet to contract wood burner installers.
