Is there a resource available to assist in the evaluation of solar pv tenders?

    Hi Jo,

Do you mean for residential or commercial applications; cost benefit analysis, life cycle costing compared to projected inceases in electricity, by region taking into account sunshine days?

    Hi Jo

There is a free programme called RETScreen (developed by the Canadian Govt) that allows you to put in various PV systems, costs, inflation, interest rates etc to compare energy savings, paybacks etc. It has the climate data sets for most NZ towns and cities. You could use this to compare different systems. http://www.retscreen.net/ang/g_photo.php

Some people are suggesting New Zealand is on the cusp of a paradign shift with regard to the future of solar hot water solar heating via-a-vis photovoltaics as a more cost effective means of providing hot water, via electricity rather than directly heating the water.

Is this the end of solar hot water before it achieved major uptake in NZ?  Some industry players think so and are moving accordingly. There is considerable development and market movement in this area,  such as the package now being offered by Kiwibank/Solar City/The Warehouse. See http://www.interest.co.nz/news/61028/kiwibank-warehouse-and-solarcity-launch-solar-power-push-warehouse-vouchers-and-kiwibank-.

There is also work being done on the develpment of an NZ solar lease analyser software which has the objective of ……  but I don’t want to rabbit on about stuff that either people know about or is not relevant to Hub users.

    Cheers, Norman
